Hang on; this is a post on the recruitment topic. How can he write “Too many volunteers?”
Simple. Each and every volunteer you recruit needs to feel cherished and valuable. I have seen (on too many occasions) a line of volunteers along the side of a hall with nothing today and looking fed up.
How can you address this? Well, easy really.
- In your planning, work out how many people you need.
- Create a rota, so your enthusiastic recruits can choose the slots that work for them.
- Make sure, before the session, that you have confirmed they are attending and let them know what you want them to do.
- Say thank you on the way out, and, if possible, send them an email, WhatsApp or text message a day or two later.
